Work
It’s all work, but one pays the bills. The nice thing about Real Estate Development is the tangible evidence of our successes. I enjoy seeing the physical buildings and watching people grow personally and professionally.
Leading a team through an ambitious stretch. The goals are big, but obtainable. I am doing the same thing, but in a new industry. A perfect mix of novelty and familiarity.
Writing
I write a weekly note called Checking In, published on Substack. It’s about personal growth and how I’m making sense of things as I go.
I’ve published two books, Being in My Own Way and Seeing Myself, both collections of personal and reflective essays about how I see life. I am super proud of these.
Lately, I am trying to render a few fictional stories banging around in my head. Mostly twisted realities like Twilight Zone or Stephen King’s Universe.
Family
My wife and I share a house in Dallas with four kids: a nineteen-year-old, a sixteen-year-old, and twins at fourteen. Also two golden doodles and two yorkie mixes, which means the house is rarely quiet and never still.
The kids are all artists in their own way. Music, sketching, reading, writing. We watch a lot of movies together, and we’ve recently started filling the house with plants.
Reading & Thinking
Somewhere between Alan Watts and Stephen King, which is a wider range than it sounds. Fiction and nonfiction in equal measure. With an unread pile bigger than I have days remaining.
Wallace said that Fiction’s job is to disturb the comfortable and comfort the disturb. Depending on the day it fills both roles for me.
